Support For The Short - A website about Heightism

Videos

Another great one from Jimi Jamison and Survivor.

If it's a fight they want . . .

The title of this film is 'Short'.  Please view it.

Young woman in Thailand gets interviewed about her height preferences in men.  She starts off as a non-heightist, then shows her true colors. The average height of men in Thailand is about 5'4".

Heightism is all a Western phenomenon you know.

Jimi Jamison of 'Survivor' - 5'6".   One of the best.

You must agree.

This is one of the most blatantly heightist commercials that has ever been aired on TV.  And the heightism is depicted without any actual heightist expletives.  This Honda commercial was first aired in 2001.  It is not difficult to see that short men are not a group with even the tiniest bit of political power or even human rights, because if they were, Honda would have been called on the carpet for this 30-second piece of garbage almost immediately.  When the women pulled up alongside the guys, they seemed to have an interest, that is, until they got out of their car and saw their heights.  This commercial degrades short men by depicting them as undesirable for women and actually uses this theme to promote Honda SUV's!  We see the short men driving away afterwards in a state of self-delusion - laughing childishly and acting stupid - just like one of the stereotypes depicting short men to be.  Of course, any stereotype of short men is acceptable - just as long as it's negative.  Could anyone picture a similar commercial depicting a group as undesirable based on race, creed, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, or even weight and using that image of undesirability to advance sales of their products?  And if there was such a commercial, could anyone imagine the backlash after it was aired?

Heightism - The Last Bastion of Discrimination

Some good points from JAYLOVE.

Wake up short men.

The Implicit Association Test to determine unconscious bias against Short Men.

It's all in your mind little man.

Fourteen inches of extra height = $200,000/year more in wages in the minds of some people.  And the short man is labeled as "not very happy" too.

We're not "very happy" either.

'Lookism - The Unspoken Prejudice' is the title of this one.  What the folks who planned this "experiment" didn't factor into the equation is height.  The man and woman who are considered "attractive" also just happen to be TALL too.  The guy and girl who aren't considered as attractive just happen to be short or shorter than the other two.  And the short guy and girl just happen to be just "staffers".

Heightism - Another "Unspoken" Prejudice.

"Well first of all let me say that it seems that in the history of the world, they'll always be short, funny-looking men who threaten world peace . . . "

The homepage of Raheel Raza's website states:

Author of THEIR JIHAD…NOT MY JIHAD (PDF), Raheel Raza is a public speaker, Consultant for Interfaith and Intercultural diversity, documentary film maker, freelance journalist and founder of SAMA' (Sacred Arts ad Music Alliance). She has recently been appointed to Public Interest Committee.

Raza started writing at a young age because she grew up in a culture where women were supposed to "be seen and not heard.” Traveling extensively throughout the Middle East, Europe, Far East and North America, Raza brings a fresh new global perspective to her mandate “there is unity in diversity”.

Raza bridges the gap between East and West, promoting cultural and religious diversity. She has appeared in print, on television and radio to discuss diversity, harmony and interfaith. In a presentation to Members of Parliament and international diplomats at the House of Commons, Raza received a standing ovation for her speech called "Celebrating our Differences".

Apparently the wonderful "diversity" that she promotes does not include short men.  Surprise, surprise.

In the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, a man named Alberto Juantorena won both the 400 and 800 meter races.  He was the first and only man in Olympic history to achieve this double.  This video is footage of both events, with live commentary from a British sportscaster.  Note that in both events the sportscaster simply MUST emphasize the heights of the first 1-3 finishers.  Just listen to the commentary at 1:09 and 1:26.  Listen to how the commentator emphasizes at 1:36 how, "Juantorena who's holding off the "American who's broken"  (that's the LITTLE American).  At 3:06 in the segment depicting the 400 meter final, the same commentator states,  "And here comes Juantorena in lane two.  Newhouse leads.  Juantorena cutting down on the little American . . ."  Why this continuous needless emphasis on the heights of the competitors by this British commentator?  It couldn't be that he's a Heightist could it?!  Oh no!  Perish the thought!  Incidentally  Rick Wohlhuter the "Little American" who won the Bronze Medal in the 800 meters was 5'9" and Fred Newhouse the Silver medalist in the 400 meters was 5'10".

It's all in your mind little man.

The above video is the final of the Men's 800 meter race in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.  The announcer is the same British guy as in the video above it.  Listen to the comment he makes about the East German runner, a guy named Peter Fromme, at 0:36 into the video - "Third is the tiny East German Peter Fromme".  Stop the video at 0:46.  Take a good look at Peter Fromme in third place in the blue shirt.  Does he appear to be "tiny" to you?!  He seems to be about the same height - or very nearly so - as the other runners.  As a matter of fact he actually appears taller than some of the other runners.  You can't say that this announcer was just making "conversation" either.  The above two videos are 8 years apart.  He seems to have a preoccupation with height.  And if you think that these two videos are irrelevant because the events depicted occurred 43 years ago and 35 years ago, we've got a few more videos for you below that are a bit more recent.  As far as heightism goes, the past is the present.

An "activist" in the Occupy Wall Street movement.  A perfect example of a BIG MAN getting the respect  and awe that the average "little" demonstrator would never get.  And he does have somewhat of a uniform on too.  Notice the policeman at 1:55 shooing away other passersby - as if they were the ones yelling and screaming.  When a BIG MAN talks - people listen.  When a big man screams - even if he appears a bit mentally unstable - as this guy does, he still deserves our respect, after all - he is a BIG MAN.  Notice the people congratulating him and shaking his hand.  They too are "awed" by a BIG MAN.  It's always the same story.  Contrast this video with the one below and see how the police deal with the "small".

When it's a woman or a small thin or frail guy, the police are not afraid to demonstrate some "muscle".
You can see how easily they grab women who are no physical threat, but yet in the video above this one, they don't dare mess with the 6'6" 300 lb.+ man, even though he's yelling and screaming at the police as if these particular police were demonstrating brutality.  They don't dare mess with him even though they have at least a 10-1 numerical advantage.

In 1968 Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel appeared on 'The Andy Williams Show'.  The above clip shows Andy Williams singing Scarborough Fair along with Simon and Garfunkel.  This clip is a very interesting one.  There were 5 group shots of all three singing.  There were 3 individual close-ups of Art Garfunkel and 3 individual close-ups of Andy Williams.  There were ZERO individual close-ups of Paul Simon;  that is, unless of course you count his fingers on the guitar as a close-up.  If you do then you're no doubt a heightist.  This clip is a perfect example of the pervasive nature of heightism, and also the covert side of heightism.  Was Simon not good-looking enough to be depicted in a close-up shot?  - Or was he just too short?  Or were the cameramen just doing what came naturally?

Greg Gutfeld:  Ann, you're Super Tall, do you think if you were short, do you think you would be less successful?
Ann Coulter:  Um, especially short and, and heavy.  Apparently.
Greg Gutfeld:  That's a direct insult at me, short and heavy.
Ann Coulter:  I think they're making too much of this, but short men also save money on things like dating.  (Laughter from other guests)
Greg Gutfeld:  Completely unnecessary.  Short men are also more successful because they try harder because they're short.
Ann Coulter:  Are you taking this story a little too personally?!  (Laughs)
Greg Gutfeld:  I pitched this story.  I wanted to leave the show with this story.

The usual comedy routine.  Watch Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld weeknights @3AM ET  (Sounds like a typical time slot for a short man)

The above video depicts a Tall girl and a short man on a segment of the Today Show briefly discussing their respective heights.  The short man behaves in a typical fashion, with a silly grin on his face, all the while attempting to appear as though he's happy as a lark.  This type of behavior does an injustice to all short people, and especially short men.  It is the Tall girl who gets the most film coverage.  It is the Tall girl who gets depicted with her boyfriend.  No girlfriend or wife was shown for the short man.  Apparently there was none.  The short man appears to be about twice the Tall girl's  age.  (How about depicting a 40+ year-old man with at least a Tall woman his age?  Or was this an attempt on the part of the producers to make an adult short man seem more like a boy, having him depicted with a college-age girl?)  The film clips of the Tall girl showed her interacting with more than one other person.  The film clips of the short man usually depicted him alone.  The clip of the short guy reaching up for an item on a high shelf at a supermarket with his shirt and his fat belly sticking out was particularly comedic.  It was most likely intended to be that way by the Today Show to make a short man appear ridiculous.  The short guy could have at least had the common sense to put the shopping basket down, so reaching up could be just a bit easier.  This is what we mean when we say short men take part in their own degradation.  The Tall girl - Becky Thomas - went on to write a guest blog for the New York Times.  The New York Times published her article, "Life as a Tall Girl".  She was also invited to do a radio interview on NPR.  Her Youtube video - "Living life as a Tall Girl" has gotten about  40,000 hits as of September 2011.  And what happened to little Lee Herman, the short man?  It appears that he's gone back to oblivion.

Please listen to the webmaster's broadcast of November 27, 2009 entitled, 'Part I - Solitary Man' where the above video segment is discussed.

It used to be that a 6-inch height difference between a little lady and her man was enough to satisfy a little gal and make her feel "protected".  It seems though that that isn't enough any more.  The trend among talentless Hollywood twits now is to go for a whopping 18-24 inch difference in height.   And Chris Humphries' 6'9" is right about speed for little 5'2" Kim Kardashian, who also regularly wears 5-6 inch heels.   After all, with all these terrorists around today, a girl can't feel too safe, now can she?

Short man gets assaulted in public in front of hundreds of witness.  He receives no assistance.  Incident treated like a big joke.  Short man feels so inferior that he doesn't dare seek assistance, but instead takes part in his own humiliation by continuing his act and trying to palm the attack off as the  joke that it was not.  Short men are going to have begin to take some responsibility for being treated this way by starting to act like they're real human beings who have rights like everyone else.

HEIGHT Magazine, for Today's Tall Women - Click here for more amazing videos
It's so wonderful to see a magazine for Tall women.  They're such victims.

What is a video on alien abductions doing on supportfortheshort?  Just look at this video.  People - any people, anywhere - are more willing to claim that they've been abducted by aliens than short people are willing to claim that they've been discriminated against because of their height.  Is this woman being dismissed?  No.  Is she being laughed at?  No.  Is she being disparaged?  No.  Is she being called a liar?  No.  Do you hear any puns or jokes?  No.  Now you think about that.

Ashley Kauffman, who was told that she couldn't sit in the front row because she was too fat.  God made her exactly as he wanted to make her, and "He doesn't make mistakes", she claims.  Wait a minute;  God made her fat?!  You can see that discrimination against even the overweight, even though weight is a choice, is taken seriously.  So why do people make a joke out of discrimination against the short-statured, especially short men, when they know full well that height is NOT a choice?

This video depicts a small boy as a "bully". Rather than give a long-winded depiction of our opinion on it we refer you to the webmaster's broadcast of April 5th 2011. The title of that broadcast is 'Bullies and Heroes'.

The above video is quite typical of the way that short men are dissed, silenced and demeaned in the workplace.  In this case it is 60 year-old David Cassidy (formerly lead vocalist of  'The Partridge Family')  And it makes no difference whether he's a "star" or just another guy off the street.  Cassidy's 'stepanfetchit' reaction is common.   Individual empowerment is useless against a collective phenomenon.  Are we comin' through out there?

This is a brief clip taken from the infamous 20/20 news magazine episode, aired years ago, where women view a group of men behind a one-way mirror and freely admit that there's no way they would date the short man.  Oh wait a minute - there is a way or two:  and that's if the others are murderers, child molesters or psychotics.  Their expert stated:  "I think the main lesson to draw is that life isn't fair".

Badass Bouncer beats up on smaller man.  A perfect metaphor for the overall situation faced by the short-statured.

Lawsuit Claims Nightclub Fired Waitresses for Being Too Short: MyFoxNY.com

"It's really nice to look eye to eye with someone. She's petite as well." This is what little Kristin replies when asked by the host if she's ever met Dolly Parton. Dolly by the way is 4'11", the same height as Kristin. When she's asked about looking for a guy she replies, "I enjoy a taller man." At that moment there is instant laughter on the part of the audience as well as laughter on the part of little Kristin. Kristin goes on further to philosophize, "It scares you a little bit, cause when a short man sees you coming, you're like, "Oh my god, what about my children..."

Kim Kardashian - 5'2", Chris Humphries 6'9"
Another short woman seemingly interested in only tall men - Extremely Tall Men.

This video is apparently from an ABC segment. Couples are brought together in the dark. If they get along and want to meet later they can and do (or so it would appear). Misty and Amit meet the same way. Watch her reaction when she "sees" Amit for the first time. Said Misty, "I'm having a hard time trying to make the right decision. Me and Amit had a great time. He has a great personality and we seemed to have a really good time. But the major factor that I have is THE HEIGHT ISSUE". Then Misty is shown leaving with her suitcase. Amit's reaction: "What"?! (typical silly short man smile on face) Misty: "I truly feel sorry. I feel bad. I don't want to hurt his feelings, but I feel that, it may come across probably shallow like, that's a stupid decision but for me I just cannot get past the height. I can't".

Amit: "Watching Misty walk out took me back to my childhood. When I came here I was always judged. It kind of felt like Misty judged me as well. But I'm, I'm okay with it, because I'm sure that there's someone out there for me, That's gonna judge me based on personality and what I have to offer and not my looks."

She didn't say it was your "looks" buddy. She said it was your height. Wake up.

Despite what women say about body shape, height is the most important physical characteristic that they look for in a man. In others words don't believe what they say; watch what they do.

The above is a brief Kenyan video report about short men. Listen carefully to the words of the announcer and also those of Chris Hart. The announcer states early in the video that short men are "more prone to discrimination", a curious choice of words that seems to imply that it is short men that are "vulnerable" to it the way some people are genetically predisposed to developing heart disease or cancer. The webmaster needs to remind the viewer that short men are not prone to discrimination like it's their fault which is what the announcer seems to want to imply by her choice of words. It is society that does the discriminating and society alone. If the video was about Black men, would she have phrased it that Black men are "more prone" to discrimination? We don't think so. Some of the women are also quite "heightist" which would seem to refute the opinion of some that heightism is solely a "Western" phenomenon.  It is not.  It is a worldwide phenomenon.  Comments Dr. Hart: "They tend to start their own businesses, because of course suddenly they’re not trapped in that employment issue." Since Dr. Hart's entire interview was not shown, we can only speculate what he meant by "trapped in that employment issue".

The webmaster discovered this clip in 2009. It is from a British show titled, "Room 101". The show "Room 101" first aired in the UK on July 4, 1994. Paul Merton was the host of 64 episodes from 1999-2007. The above clip features Merton with an American named Rich Hall who included short people as "items on his list to be banished . . ." We don't know exactly who Hall is or was, but we do know that Short People are high on his list of things to get rid of.

Why is 18 year-old Khagendra Thapa Magar depicted 'playing' with 3 and 4 year-olds and sitting in a classroom with what appears to be 5 and 6 year-old children??? The answer is that this is an extreme example of the stigmatization of the short as incompetent and child-like.
