Veterans spotlight: Vero Beach veteran served in France (NEW)
By Joe Crankshaw
Posted January 14, 2012 at 3:32 p.m.
VERO BEACH — The Rev. William Cantwell, 85, a retired Paulist priest, says the Army's efforts during World War II to make him a rifleman were only partially successful.
His ability with a typewriter finally got him a job inside, out of the weather. "I never fired my weapon at anyone," he said.
Born in Bloomfield, N.J., he graduated from public schools there in 1943, and went to try to join the Navy. He was rejected because of poor eyesight. He went to work for The Associated Press in the Newark office as a wire photo and Teletype operator. But not for long; the draft took him into the Army — it wasn't concerned about his eyesight.
Cantwell did his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. and advanced training in Arkansas and Alabama. "They sent me to heavy weapons school for machine guns and 60 mm mortars," he said. "Everyone in my class had bad eyesight."
When President Franklin D. Roosevelt died, the Army told everyone in his unit under 6 feet tall to take a few days off, he said. "They only wanted tall men in the units on parade, so I went home for a few days."

I wonder if they told all the Black guys, or the Hispanic guys, or the Jewish guys, or the overweight guys, or the bald guys, or the green-eyed guys, or the thin guys, or the guys with a cleft palate in his unit to "take a few days off"? This was 65 years ago.
Wake up short men.

Why can't this gentle giant rest in peace? The undignified fight over the skeleton of a 8ft 4in colossus exhibited as a freak in his lifetime (NEW)
By Annabel Venning
Last updated at 3:03 AM on 9th January 2012
He was so tall that he could light his pipe from a street lamp. He was said to be more than 8ft 4in (although his skeleton suggests he was actually nearer 8ft). His voice sounded ‘like thunder’, his hands and feet were immense and he had a gentle manner — when he was sober.
Charles Byrne, known as the Irish Giant, was the toast of Georgian London after arriving to seek his fortune at the age of 21 and being put on show as a freak.
People flocked to see him. Newspapers printed breathless reports of his astonishing size. The King and Queen received him, and the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire — the leading lights of fashionable society — took their friends to see Byrne.
But after a brief period of fame, the Irish Giant died.
A devout Catholic, mindful of the after-life, he left strict instructions that his body should be buried at sea in a lead-lined coffin: he was desperate that his remains escape the attentions of surgeons and scientists who were eager to dissect it and place it on public display.
But his last wishes were cruelly ignored and his worst fears realised when an eminent surgeon managed to snatch the body and put his skeleton on display in the Royal College of Surgeons — where it remains today.

Take a good look at the photo in the article. I wonder if anyone is concerned about the remains of the man/woman whose skeleton hangs beside that of Byrne? That would be the small skeleton. He or she obviously doesn't count as much - or at all.

Using the Golden Globes to Shine a Light on Domestic Violence
(NEW)
1/16/2012
Actor Peter Dinklage poses in the press room with his Golden Globe award for best supporting actor. Dinklage used the forum to shine a light on an important issue.
Alyssa Rosenberg uses Peter Dinklage’s important moment at the Golden Globes last night to riff on important issues surrounding domestic violence of disabled people.
“I don’t know that most people know the other ways discrimination against disabled people plays out,” she writes. “Just 20.7 percent of people with disabilities participate in the labor force, compared with 69.3 percent of able-bodied people. Disability magnifies the impact and risk of domestic and sexual violence. And students with disabilities drop out of school at twice the rate of their able-bodied peers. These are critically important issues, and ones that I think often go invisible.”
This is troubling, obviously, and made more so by the fact that disabled people – like children – are going to have a much harder time communicating the fact of their abuse to people who might be able to help.
Worse, as with all abuse issues there are no easy answers to the problem. Most abuse occurs at the hands of trusted family and friends and authority figures. And it’s often hushed up both at the point of abuse and in the broader culture.

Men over 6ft 'face a 24% lower risk of heart failure' (NEW)
Distance between hearts and branches of arteries may decrease stress, says U.S. study
By Sophie Borland
Last updated at 1:38 AM on 21st January 2012
They are said to be more desirable to women, more successful and more likely to father children.
And now scientists claim that tall men have yet another advantage – they are less at risk of heart problems.
Harvard researchers have found that those who are more than 6ft are a quarter less likely to suffer from heart failure than men just a few inches smaller.
They looked at the records of 22,000 male doctors in their mid-fifties who were subsequently followed over a 22-year period.
They each filled in an initial questionnaire on their height, weight and general health and then every year subsequently filled in surveys about any new medical diagnoses.
The study, published in the American Journal of Cardiology, found that 1,444 men developed heart failure which was about 7 per cent of the total.
But men who were 6ft or over (1.8 meters) were 24 per cent less likely to report having heart failure than those who were 5ft 8 or smaller (1.72 meters).

Live concert etiquette (NEW)
Nikita Ramkissoon | 16 January, 2012 09:38
I have been to many concerts and experienced the awesomeness of watching my favourite bands on stage. From Muse and Coldplay to Massive Attack and Skunk Anansi, every show holds some special place in my heart. But some of those memories are tainted by the one or two horrid people who just made the experience unpleasant.
Here are a few things concert-goers should know.
1. Don’t shove. Let people through to get to their friends and family. We all want to enjoy the concert, don’t get grumpy or attack the person trying to find the people with whom they came to the concert. It just gets everyone upset. Even if there is “no space”, move over just a little. Be human.
2. If it’s a closed arena, please don’t smoke. There is nowhere for your smoke to go but into other people’s faces. It’s selfish, inconsiderate and not to mention illegal.
3. If you’re right at the front, there is no space for a mosh pit, so don’t make one. You can hurt other people, and all that it will result in is anger and maybe even disaster.
4. Don’t bring huge bags or hats that will either block people’s view, or take up precious space. Take only what you need.
5. Be kind to short people. It’s not their fault that their genes have an awful sense of humour.

Dwarf left paralysed after being thrown by drunken Rugby fan (NEW)
10:16AM GMT 12 Jan 2012
Police are hunting a drunken reveller wanted for random dwarf throwing after a man was left partially paralysed following an assault at a pub during the rugby World Cup.
Martin Henderson - celebrating his 37th birthday with friends - was thrown into the air by a hooded thug in a copycat of the shamed England rugby star Mike Tindall's behaviour in the summer.
Tindall was kicked out of the Elite Player Squad squad and fined £25,000 after a Rugby Football Union investigation into his drunken night in a dwarf-themed Queenstown bar.
In the copycat incident a month later, Mr Henderson suffered damage to nerve tissue in his spine causing his legs to go numb after landing on his back on the pavement.
Officers have now launched an investigation into the incident.
Mr Henderson condemned the hooded stranger yesterday (Thurs) after the cruel prank left him confined to a wheelchair.
He said: "From what I remember, there was only one person involved but it was very scary as I didn't know what was going on.
"I guess I was an easy target and the only reason I was picked on was because I am small.

Can power actually make you feel taller? (NEW)
Power can make people feel physically taller, according to a new study.
January 10, 2012
A series of experiments conducted by American researchers confirmed that there is a relationship between feelings of power and our perception of our own height.
According to the research, from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labour Relations in New York, there is a physical experience that goes with feeling powerful.
Professor Jack Goncalo, who led the study, said: “Although a great deal of research has shown that physically-imposing individuals are more likely to acquire power, this work is the first to show that being powerful may actually make people feel taller than they are. We found that people literally perceived themselves as taller when they occupied a more powerful position.”
He said it raised the possibility that world leaders were less able to feel empathy and relate to “little people” because they actually felt bigger.
Similarly, short people might attempt to capture power by physically elevating themselves above others.

Size Does Matter
8/22/11
No not that size discussion. If you showed up looking for a discussion on THAT subject,
please see this disclaimer. Whew, I feel better now…moving on.
According to Wikipedia, the average American male is 5’10″. Seriously? I am six inches under average. That’s right I am a guy that barely makes the American average for women at 5’4″. So I was wondering, does it really matter? There are your standard stereotypes of prejudice. You know the ones; they are race, religion, and sexual orientation. I call those the big three. However, human beings love to categorize and judge all kinds of things. If someone doesn’t “measure up” they are often ostracized in our society. Male height is one of those areas.
There are many studies that show that shorter men are at a disadvantage in romantic circles. In 2008, the news magazine show 20/20 did an interesting experiment. They put men in a line-up that ranged in height, but had one man in the 5′ to 5’3″ range for each line-up. In that experiment the women were told that the short men were uber-successful, or rich, or athletic. It did not make a bit of difference. On basis of appearance alone, the short men were snubbed heavily because of their height. In my own experience, my dating opportunities were limited in college. I was told numerous times, by women I was interested in, that they simply could not date someone that was shorter than they were. Even shorter women were very often looking for taller men. Cultural bias leans toward couples having the male be taller than the female. It was a painful lesson in prejudice that I did not recognize at the time. Does this cultural bias extend further than romantically though?

Short people got no reason — to pump up their height on the taxpayer’s dime.
Gov. Cuomo’s administration is considering eliminating Medicaid funding for hormone-growth treatment provided to kids who have no medical reason to get it.
The move would save the state $10 million a year for a procedure most private insurers won’t even cover.
The bottom line: Taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the medical bill to increase the height of people who are naturally short, officials said.

A Christmas Gift
December 24, 2011
By Joe Mangano
Back in June of this year I was having a mechanical problem with my car. The ‘Check Engine’ light went on along with an idle that started to fluctuate between being too low and nearly stalling out, and too high (car could travel 15 mph without stepping on the gas). I took my car to the service department of the dealer. They performed some “repairs” on my car and gave it back to me in virtually the same condition. I paid over $1,000 for the “repairs”. I took my car back the next day with virtually the same problem as before. The day after that I was contacted by the service department that my car was ready. When I looked at the new receipt, it read,
REPAIRED IDLE SCREW ON THROTTLE BODY – CONDITION REPAIRED
There were no further charges. I knew though, that I had been taken for the previous $1,000+ in charges. The service department of this dealer was sent a letter – a legal letter. The head of the service department indicated that they were willing to go to court over the matter. I then contacted my credit card company with a legitimate complaint. I backed it up with correspondence from an expert mechanic that was experienced with the make and model of my car. He basically corroborated what I had known all along, and that is that the service department had performed unnecessary repairs on my car; repairs that were not specific to the problem at hand.
I received a letter from my credit card company today informing me that the temporary credit on my account was now a permanent credit.
I’m not going to state that I believe that the dealer tried to take advantage of me because of my height. It certainly is possible – even probable – but I also know that this is the game many auto repair shops play. Most customers don’t know anything about cars and many repair shops exploit this fact to charge them for repairs and parts that they don’t need, or even repairs that weren’t performed. I disputed the charges and won. They didn’t give an inch and I didn’t give an inch, but I stand in triumph. With this personal victory of sorts coming as it does on Christmas Eve and also on the eve of a potentially portentous year as 2012 has been predicted to be, perhaps this is a positive omen not only for the webmaster, but for short people as well.

Long legs to remain fantasy for petite Chinese
By Clifford Coonan in Beijing
Monday 06 November 2006
China has banned the practice of leg-lengthening, a cosmetic surgery procedure popular among young professionals who believe height will help them to climb the career ladder, after a rash of botched operations has left patients disfigured.

"Leg-stretching surgery for the image conscious has been banned by China's health ministry after a spate of botched operations," the Xinhua news agency reported.

From now on, leg extensions may be carried out by hospitals that conduct at least 400 orthopaedic operations a year and offer post-surgery care and rehabilitation, and only on strictly medical grounds, the ministry said.

Why little Miss Li paid a man £1,600 to break her legs
By Richard Spencer in Beijing
12:01AM BST 23 Sep 2006
A year ago this month, Li Ping, an attractive 23-year-old from Beijing, split up with her boyfriend, checked into a clinic and paid doctors £1,600 to break her legs, just because she felt a little on the short side.
snip
She is also an example of the dangers posed by an expanding and often unscrupulous private health care system in China, in which state-trained doctors can nowadays branch out for money with very little supervision or regulation.
Miss Li's legs failed to grow together properly. Despite the dramatic nature of the surgery, she was sent home in 20 days. Six months later she was in great pain and still unable to walk properly.
She is one of at least 10 cases of patients crippled by the same clinic, attached to the Fragrant Hills Hospital in western Beijing, which led to its being closed down this week and warnings from the ministry of health of the surgery's dangers.
snip
The transactions were arranged through a registered website, and the clinic did not fall under the ministry's supervision.
snip
Dr Xia Hetao, who runs Beijing's largest leg extension clinic and is now trying to repair the damage done to Miss Li and other victims, said that of his 150 patients a year, only five per cent suffered severe leg deformities.
snip
Xiangshan Hospital said that it had closed its leg extension clinic since the reports of injuries.
It did not explain why it allowed the hospital to be used by a web-based firm set up by an entrepreneur for operations carried out by surgeons with no specialist expertise.

The entrepreneur, Zhang Chunjiang, is now said to be in hiding.

Fame Vs. Celebrity: A New York Story-Part 2 (NEW)
By Palash R. Ghosh | December 14, 2011 11:07 AM EST
Having lived in Manhattan for about twenty years, I’ve had my fair share of “encounters” with celebrities.
Many famous people -- singers, actors, politicians, athletes, etc. -- live in New York or visit here quite frequently, given that the metropolis is a global center for media, art, fashion, cuisine and finance.
In the beginning, seeing celebrities in the flesh was an exciting and exhilarating experience. However, as the years passed, I became more of a proverbial “jaded New Yorker” and realized that it was a routine thing to observe people who have been blessed (and, in some cases, plagued) by fame, wealth and celebrity.
As a result, I have seen or run into literally hundreds of celebrities -- ranging from global icons to the Andy Warhol ‘fifteen-minute’ variety -- in Manhattan over the past two decades.
Here are some general observations I have made about such celebrity sightings/encounters:
snip
*Most celebrities look worse in 'real-life' than they do in the newspapers or on TV and films. Typically, they are shorter, heavier and less attractive than you would imagine – indeed, make-up and studio lighting can do wonders for one’s pulchritude).
snip
David Bowie: When I was a child, David Bowie – in the guise of ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and the ‘Thin White Duke’ and other fanciful characters – was the biggest pop star in the world. He was so huge and popular that (as I recall), some critics believed he could supplant The Beatles in terms global fame and influence. Well, that didn’t actually happen, but Bowie has indeed carved out an extraordinary and stellar career.
I had read somewhere that he lived in downtown Manhattan part of the year, but I never dreamt I would ever see him in person – until, one afternoon I was sitting in an outdoor restaurant in Soho. I first spotted this little man across the street wearing an army fatigue jacket (despite the warm weather) and blue jeans, He also wore dark glasses and was carrying a rather large camera, hanging from his neck. He looked terribly familiar, but I couldn’t tell who it was.
Lo and behold, he crossed the street near to our locale -- I was flabbergasted to see that it was none other than David Bowie.
He was probably about 50 years old at that time but he looked exceptionally young, with a handsome face, sharp features and those unforgettable mismatched eyes.
But…. he was so short. He couldn’t have been more than 5-foot-5 or so. Having never seen him before in person, I was shocked and distressed by his tiny size. Perhaps I am biased against short people, but I couldn’t fathom how someone so small could dominate the merciless pop culture market for three decades.

ALPHA MALE: Stylish Dressing for Tall Guys (NEW)
Wednesday, December 07, 2011
Marc Streisand, GoLocalProv Men's Style Expert
In the West, men that stand greater than 6’3’’ are considered tall. This is considerably larger than other parts of the world, where a tall man is anyone above 5’10’’. While there are many advantages to height – picking up women and rebounding basketballs to name a few – several challenges also exist. Tall men must consider homes with higher ceilings, bigger cars, and need to constantly stay on the alert for short doorways and low hanging lighting fixtures. An additional challenge that comes with height is the selection of proper clothing to effectively use one’s height to build style.
The built-in advantage
Generally speaking, clothing tends to hang better on tall men than short men, especially men that are tall and lean. Well-dressed tall men command a presence, many CEOs and business leaders are tall.

Philadelphia, known for its cheesesteaks, thinks it’s the fattest city, claiming to have more overweight residents than any other major metropolitan area in the country.
Los Angeles, home of many a red-carpet event, which comes in at a perhaps surprising No. 6 on the vanity scale, nonetheless tops the nation in boob jobs and Botox procedures.

Some fancy footwork (NEW)
Sue Williams
From: The Australian
December 16, 2011 12:00AM
WOMEN have always loved bespoke shoes, but demand from Australian men kicked off only with the 1981 British television drama Brideshead Revisited.
It was then broken in by the 1987 movie Wall Street and is now enjoying a boost in popularity thanks to the stylish US series Mad Men. Or so says bespoke tailor John Cutler, who believes men have never been so keen to stand out from the rest of the crowd.
"People want to be individualised, they want something everyone else doesn't have," he says. "Men are now more aware of expressing themselves through clothes and shoes."
Although there aren't many bespoke shoemakers in Australia for men and women, there are a few with skills and passion passed down from previous generations, as well as others who have learnt the craft on college courses around the country. But the market is still patchy - two bespoke makers have closed in Melbourne in the past six months, saying demand is just too unpredictable.
And while some men are catching up to women in their interest in classy shoes made to personal specifications, we still have no one of the ilk of Prince Charles, who is said to own 50 handmade pairs, each costing more than £800. (He still wears a 1970s pair from John Lobb of St James.) So there's room for improvement. "You still see short men in white shoes with pointed toes and they look like clowns," complains bespoke shoemaker Levon Karapetyan. "You try, but it's hard to change that mentality."

A tall order
by Georgina Chang todayonsunday@mediacorp.com.sg
04:45 AM Dec 04, 2011
I'm not shy to admit that I'm instantly attracted to tall and hunky men.
Yes, yes, qualities like honesty, integrity, courage and conviction matter, of course. But we're talking about first impressions here. And I'm not alone.
According to a recent survey by Lunch Actually on singles in Singapore, 70 per cent of women would not date a shorter man. Even though I'm one of these height-ist people, I'm quite astonished at the overwhelming percentage.
snip
Then again, I realise most Singaporean women are like me. As I'm only 5 foot 3 (when stretched to my full capacity), I don't think it's a tall order to ask for a man who is taller than I am. Especially since I like wearing 3-inch heels. So generally, we're not asking for a 6-foot hunk (though nobody would complain). He just needs to be at least 5 foot 10.
t does seem shallow and superficial to use height as a yardstick to decide if someone can be your partner. However, there are scientific reasons why women prefer taller men. It's all wired in our brains to ensure survival. For starters, the taller and hopefully stronger man is more intimidating to potential enemies.
So in choosing a mate, naturally as the weaker sex, we want someone to protect us. If some sleazy guy is perving at you in a club or at the mall, there's nothing like having your big brutish boyfriend saunter up and chase the perve away simply with a glare. I've experienced this before and, despite my fiercely independent spirit, it really makes me feel safe and secure.
Height represents health and vitality, and the propensity to breed children.
snip
We want tall strapping children bursting with vigour, instead of sickly and weak ones who get bullied in school.
Taller people are also judged to have better education and have more wealth.
snip
And this goes back to the woman's survival instinct. She wants her children to grow up with the best food, medicine, education, vacations and lifestyle. Surely you can't blame a woman for preferring to live in a nice house compared to a shabby one.

A Vaccination Against Social Prejudice
ScienceDaily (Dec. 1, 2011) — Evolutionary psychologists suspect that prejudice is rooted in survival: Our distant ancestors had to avoid outsiders who might have carried disease. Research still shows that when people feel vulnerable to illness, they exhibit more bias toward stigmatized groups. But a new study in Psychological Science, a journal published by the Association for Psychological Science suggests there might be a modern way to break that link.
"We thought if we could alleviate concerns about disease, we could also alleviate the prejudice that arises from them," says Julie Y. Huang of the University of Toronto, about a study she conducted with Alexandra Sedlovskaya of Harvard University; Joshua M. Ackerman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Yale University's John A. Bargh. The group found that the sense of security derived through measures such as vaccination and hand washing can reduce bias against "out" groups, from immigrants to the obese.

People With Low Self-Esteem Show More Signs of Prejudice
ScienceDaily (Feb. 23, 2011) — When people are feeling bad about themselves, they're more likely to show bias against people who are different. A new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, examines how that works.
"This is one of the oldest accounts of why people stereotype and have prejudice: It makes us feel better about ourselves," says Jeffrey Sherman of the University of California, Davis, who wrote the study with Thomas Allen. "When we feel bad about ourselves, we can denigrate other people, and that makes us feel better about ourselves."

People Confront Prejudice Only When They Believe Others' Personalities Can Change, Study Finds
ScienceDaily (July 28, 2010) — Confronting someone who makes a prejudiced remark can be a good thing -- but not everyone does it. Researchers at Stanford University studied how and when targets of bias will speak up, and found that they're more likely to do so if they hold a particular belief: that people's personalities can change.
snip
Rattan also points out another implication: some areas of law are based on a belief that people who are the targets of bias should speak up. "In the law, speaking up in the moment is very important in terms of whether people can bring lawsuits and the strength of their claims, especially in sexual harassment law," she says. The implication is that if the bias was all that bad, the person would have confronted it. This study suggests that people may have many reasons for not speaking up when they're the target of bias, including their own beliefs about personality. "Maybe our standards should not start with the idea that all people want to speak up -- it may depend upon their beliefs about personality," she says.

Discrimination against Short Men.
I was at work yesterday and
some of the Nurses were laughing about a "short man" that was one of their patients.
snip
I will compare making fun of a short person, the equivalent of making fun of someone because they are black, or Asian, or white. That person cannot change who they are.
Short men are discriminated against MOST of all. Women are expected to be short. A short Women can date a Tall Man. However, a Short Man finds it almost impossible to date taller Women. They are looked down upon and made fun of all the time. Even short women make fun of short men. It is seen as OK in our society. Well I think it is WRONG. In fact, I think short men should be considered a minority and given the same special civil rights as other minorities in our country, (i.e. blacks, Hispanics, American Indians).
snip
So I make this plea to adults around the USA to STOP the mean, hateful, discriminating remarks towards Short Men. Just stop and put yourselves in their position. It is just as bad as calling a black person a n......ger. Stop now.

Do short guys finish last?

It's official. Finding love is a tall order for vertically-challenged men in Singapore.
A recent study by dating agency Lunch Actually says 70 per cent of the 640 women surveyed will not even consider romancing a shorter man. Only 14 per cent said they will go out with a guy who was shorter than them, while another 16 per cent cannot make up their minds.
Women in Hong Kong and Malaysia have also reported a similar preference for tall men, or in other words, a systemic bias against shorter men.
Earlier in May, a study by Dr David Carrier from the University of Utah also found an association between a man's height and strength; and the findings suggest that women are wired to choose taller males, as they need stronger and more powerful mates to protect them and their children from danger.

Short can be troublesome or seriously dangerous
ROSEMARY MCLEOD
December 8, 2011
Mothers should warn their impressionable daughters to be wary of short men. They're nothing but trouble.
In Wellington, diminutive Terry Serepisos is an example. We believed his property empire was worth $200 million, but in September he was bankrupt, which made his appearance as the master on TV's The Apprentice last year look daft. Donald Trump, whose successful format this is, is 6 foot 2. You catch my drift.
snip
But shortness in men is a disadvantage in the workplace, where the most loathsome person I ever worked for was both short and a nudist. You were plagued by intrusive visions of him, pink bits jiggling, on the volleyball court. Ugh.
Research shows tall men get the promotions, and in romance, too, short men have problems. No-one wants a lover she feels she has to mother, or who feels he has to dominate her with incessant rooster crowing and wing flapping. Short men, research has shown, are jealous types, which is all you need to know.

Concert Review: Randy Newman With the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall

No, no, redact that. Such high accolades belong to Randy Newman and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Old Man: A Happy Birthday Randy Newman Playlist
By Craig Hlavaty Mon., Nov. 28 2011 at 1:00 PM

Newman's catalog has always challenged us, because it's completely real, dropping emotions into his short songs that few people have been able to express since. The typical American themes of money, race, love, class warfare he laid bare, sometimes using coarse and offensive language.
Younger artists have been covering Newman's stuff lately too. Justin Townes Earle and Robert Ellis cover "Louisiana 1927" live as well, though Ellis' is a little more rocking than Earle's reverent take. That song and his "Short People" get covered the most, the latter because well, it's funny.

Hats Off to Randy Newman
The thoughts of
popular music's bravest songwriter on his 68th birthday
Monday, 28 November 2011
There are many reasons to love the music of Randy Newman, who turns 68 today. For starters
he’s a renowned ironist and a caustic wit who is nevertheless capable of being as emotionally straight as any heart-on-sleeve singer-songwriter.
snip
In the 1970s he looked a little like Woody Allen crossbred with Gene Wilder, and even though nowadays he has a more distinguished air he can still be as funny as both used to be. I love him for all those reasons but mostly because I can’t think of another songwriter who dares to be so utterly,
irredeemably dislikeable in the honourable pursuit of snaring human nature at its truest and grubbiest. There is a kind of grasping neediness in almost all writers and performers that Newman simply doesn’t possess. Few other artists have displayed the strength of purpose to inhabit the skins of the kind of characters who people songs such as “Rednecks”, “Short People” and, more recently, “A Few Words in Defence of Our Country“ and “Korean Students".

Gene Shortage Might Lead to Shorter Height, Study Says
In two separate groups, shortest people were missing copies of genes
November 23, 2011
By Maureen Salamon
HealthDay Reporter
WEDNESDAY, Nov. 23 (HealthDay News) -- Tall or short, it's long been known that genes account for much of a person's height. Now, scientists have found that short people actually might be missing copies of certain genes, which can leave them significantly smaller than average.
Studying DNA from more than 11,000 children and adults, an international team of researchers learned that those of short stature -- defined roughly as falling into the shortest 2.5 percent of their peer group -- had an excess number of rare deletions, or missing copies, of specific genes.
snip
Several limitations might affect the validity of the study results, the authors acknowledged. One is the fact that children whose DNA was evaluated had initially undergone genetic analysis for other reasons such as developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders and multiple birth defects. So it's possible that those with many missing gene copies are likelier to have conditions leading to poor growth, the study said, but the replication of results in a more representative population suggests the findings can be generalized to others.

Moustache is the fuzz word now

Many great men in history wore moustaches with pride. Heroes like Hulk Hogan and Chuck Norris disposed of shavers.
Great minds such as Shakespeare and Albert Einstein twirled their curly moustaches as they pondered. Merv Hughes, the legendary Australian pace bowler, had massive handlebars which rustled in the wind.
The late lead singer of Queen Freddie Mercury’s moustache can be bought on eBay. Any woman with memories of the 80s will get weak at the knees when they reminisce about Tom Selleck’s brown, sometimes black, Magnum P.I. moustache (arguably the most charismatic moustache in history).

Letter from The Netherlands: Tall people being given short shrift
A glimpse inside the Tall People's Club, where problems such as low-hanging shops signs and leg room on transport can be shared if not solved
Mark Smith Guardian Weekly, Tuesday 15 November 2011 09.01 EST
Sounding ever so slightly resentful, John Hekelaar says: "The Germans got there first." He's referring not to the pick of poolside sun loungers, but rather to the establishment of an organisation defending the interests of an oft-neglected minority: tall people.
Hekelaar, 64 years old and 2 metres in his socks ("I'm one of the shorter ones," he confesses) is president of the Dutch Klub Lange Mensen, literally the Tall People's Club, which was established in 1958 by "some tall guy in Amsterdam" and has been campaigning on behalf of the vertically extravagant ever since. Today, the club has some 2,000 members nationwide and serves as a forum for problem-sharing and -solving. You're welcome to join, regardless of nationality, as long as you meet the minimum height requirement: 1.8 metres for women; 1.9 metres for men.
But hang on a minute. Isn't being tall a desirable thing, a sign that you're one of Darwin's straight "A" students? Why on earth is a bunch of people who've won the genetic lottery standing around feeling sorry for themselves?
Well, because they can't always find somewhere to sit down, for one thing.

And that's just transit. Town planning is another bugbear: "Low-hanging traffic signs and shop awnings can be very dangerous," confides Hekelaar. "We keep hitting our heads.

Wes Welker specifically asked for "little people" to be the waiters at his party
Posted by Sean Tomlinson under What the hell? on Nov 10, 2011
Short people have it rough. They’re always climbing step ladders to reach into cupboards, and they’re not allowed to ride the good roller coasters.
Wes Welker has a diminutive stature for an NFL wide receiver (Welker’s only 5’9″), so he’s suffered through this tragic life. But somehow he’s still fought off all the short jokes to haul in 29 career touchdowns and 6,617 receiving yards in seven seasons as a starter in New England. Even exceptional short people need to feel tall, though, and when he held a preseason party for his friends and family back in September Welker knew exactly how to feel like a giant for a few short hours.
Welker contacted a catering company and specifically asked for some “little people” to be included on the service staff for the party.

Remembrance Day: The Army Of 'Dwarfs" Who Fought In The Trenches of the Somme
By Ewan Palmer
November 10, 2011
The International Business Times is marking Remembrance Day with a series of forgotten stories of war.
In the Great War tens of thousands of men deemed to short to join the British Army formed their own unique units and became known as the Bantam Battalions.
"The citizens of LeHavre weren't prepared for the bizarre sight that greeted them after a British troopship arrived in the harbour in January, 1916...They were about five feet tall, miniature Guardsmen, more like mascots than fighting men."
snip
Less than half of them would return home.
Unfortunately for these soldiers - whose story is one of the most unusual chapters in the British Army - the reward for their bravery and determination to fight for Britain during the Great War, as well as the constant ridicule, has largely gone unnoticed.
snip
"You have to remember that nobody expected the war to last very long," recalled Cyril Wright, to Sidney Allinson, author of 'The Bantams, the definitive work on the unique group of fighting men. Wright was one of the frustrated 5 ft. 2 inchers who were originally refused the privilege to fight for his country.
snip
Men like Wright at first were unable to sign up regardless of health or strength and were not even asked to take a preliminary examination.

Do Short Men Rule The World?

A recent column in Britain’s Daily telegraph newspaper described Sarkozy and Berlusconi as “pygmies.”
Sarkozy’s midget-like height has long been discussed in European media. Reportedly, he is extremely sensitive about his small stature and reacts angrily to any aspersions about his tiny frame.

Sarkozy was embarrassed when during an event at the D-Day beach in Normandy, he stood next to the much taller American President Barack Obama (6-foot-1) and Prime Minister Gordon Brown (5-foot-11) of Britain.

In March of 2010, Cameron allegedly made a remark about “hidden dwarfs” when discussing a photograph of himself and Sarkozy.

In April 2010, the German–based car rental company, Sixt, placed an advertisement which explicitly made fun of Sarkozy’s height.
Under a picture of a French hatchback, the slogan read (translated into English from German):"Do the same as Madame Bruni, choose a small French model.”
Jean-Philippe Doyen, the president of Sixt in France, defended the ad at the time by saying: "These advertisements are entitled to be funny and we need to inject a little fun into our business after such a difficult period experienced by many of our clients."

Every time I hear news of Bruno, he’s done a bad, bad thing. His rap sheet includes breaking the front window three times in an attempt to get at the postman; biting the pool man; terrifying visitors and causing Deborah to suffer various falls, lacerations and broken glasses during walks because even the dog’s heavy choke chain couldn’t prevent him from dragging her along when he decided she needed his protection from another passing dog. Due to some puppyhood trauma, he flips out when he sees vans on the street, especially vans driven by short men.Actually, Bruno is not from hell—he’s from Woodland Hills. At least, that’s where our friends Deborah and Ron Kaye found him in 2005, lurking in the bushes in front of their house. Deborah admits to being scared of the stocky creature, a pit bull-Shar-pei mix whose stripy velvet coat was marred with mange and whose lopsided grin was studded with teeth as crooked and broken as an old graveyard.
“Ron said: ‘Maybe you should feed him, he might be more dangerous if he’s hungry,’ . . .

“He eats grass, and you just know if he goes into the bushes and does too much sniffing, he’s going to come out with a hamburger,” Deborah says, wrinkling her nose at this scavenger habit. “He’s always looking for old meat. Taller People Are Happier, Especially if They’re Male

'Tall beats Small' in leadership stakes
Tuesday, 18 October 2011 10:19 AM
Political leaders are more likely to win elections if they are taller than their rivals, new analysis has suggested.
snip
"Our research and the literature demonstrate that there is a preference for physically formidable leaders that likely reflects an evolved psychological trait, independent of any cultural conditioning," report co-author Professor Gregg Murray said.

Author Catherine Hakim argued in her book Erotic Capital, published last month, that there are clear advantages to being tall.
"By early adulthood, tall people have substantially better social and psychological development, in terms of emotional stability, extraversion, motivation, optimism, taking authority, courtesy to others and sociability," she argued.

If Tall people were a highly discriminated against group with no political power and no means of redress, they might not be so extroverted and eager to assume authority.

Superficial women beware: Short men lurk on online dating sites
by Tom Mills 10/4/11
It was withering to read in a QMI series on online dating that one of the biggest risks for women is that they might encounter short men.
A story about online dating dangers, with the headline DANGERS in a dangerous shade of red ink, led off with the tragic case of a woman, pseudonymed Jennifer, matched up on eHarmony with a man who said he was 6-foot-1 but, to her horror, was just 5-foot-9.
snip
The story went on to quote a dating service founder as saying, "What I hear most often is women who have presented themselves sincerely and he walks in and is half the size."
snip
Hyperbole aside, it was interesting to read that women dread hooking up with a short guy even more than being matched up with the same sort of tall, dark and handsome S.O.B. who used to smack them around before cheating on them with a squadron of 22-year-olds named Bambi.

But apparently height prejudice is rampant in the pseudo-sincere world of online personals.

Playing careers are not the only improbable dreams chased in the remote outposts of the minor leagues.
In 1998, a young minor league salesman named Chris Ames created an alter ego named
The World Famous Monkey Boy. The WFMB was a peanut hurling, Super Soaker toting, break-dancing dynamo in a tattered costume shop bear suit, held together by duct tape and re-purposed to an approximation of the simian form with a cheap plastic monkey mask.

No, I don't have 'Short-Man Complex'... YOU have the complex!
taken from boards.straightdope.com
My female friend tried setting me up with one of her friends. I thought it was a very bad idea, because dating a friend of a friend can end up horribly. The friend might take side if a breakup should accrue. You could have a nasty break up and never want to see that other person again, but have a hard time avoiding each other when you have a mutual friend. Or, in my case, you could end up having little respect for the friend that tried to set you up with such an ass. Hell, I look down on her for even HAVING a friend like her, let alone trying to set me up with her.
I meet this girl once, at the movies, for the first time. She informs me that she can't see a movie, and she has to go right away. She said she had something important to do, and it was personal. I was sort of pissed off at first, but I gave her the benefit of my doubt. Maybe whatever she had to do was important, and really needed to go.
A week passes, and I hear nothing from this girl (Sue). I asked my friend what the hell was up. I pestered her to tell me. I didn't ask to know WHY she left the first time we met, I just wanted to know if she was justified in doing it. My friend (Joanna) finally gave in and told me that she didn't like me because I was too short for her.
snip
I got pissed at my friend Joanna, which I think I'm VERY justified in doing so, since she admitted knowing Sue could be like the way she was that night. Joanna then said something completely ignorant and offensive.

Is your height holding you back?
By Bertan Budak
September 13, 2011
Whether you're short or tall, your height dictates the course of both your professional and personal life, experts say. But does this mean a generation of shortand tall men are destined for failure?
snip
Whether you choose to believe it or not, experts say your height has a wide influence over how much you're paid, who you end up dating and, more shockingly, your life expectancy.
snip
Height in the boardroom
Numerous studies from Britain, America and more recently, Australia, have all found that men wh're 6ft tall or over earn, on average, $956 more than those who're 4ft 10 in or below - that's a pay rise equivalent to an extra 12 months' experience.
Many experts believe employers find taller people more desirable as they command more respect than their vertically challenged counterparts.
snip
Another 2005 survey of fortune 500 CEOs found that an overwhelming 90 percent of CEO's in the US are 6ft or over, while only 3 percent are below the national average height of 5ft 10 in.
snip
Dr. David Carrier, who led the study, said: "From the perspective of sexual selection theory, women are attracted to powerful males, not because powerful males can beat them up, but because powerful males can protect them and their children from other males."
snip
But it's not all bad news fellas: there are several vertically challenged men out there who've bagged themselves drop-dead gorgeous girlfriends. Take Jamie Callum, the 32-year-old jazz crooner who is married to Sophie Dahl and Tom Cruise who, at 5ft 7in, is two whole inches shorter than his wife, the gorgeous Katie Holmes.

Since 9/11, Afghanistan's national sport of buzkashi has become as complicated as the country itself
By Carl Hoffman
ESPN The Magazine
This story appears in the Sept. 19, 2011 issue of ESPN The Magazine.
There aren't a lot of bats, balls or rackets in northern Afghanistan. There are goats, horses, men and dusty plains, and they have been there ever since Genghis Khan and his Mongol horde swept into the neighborhood in the 13th century. Their game, then, is simple. Men on horseback grab a goat from a chalk circle, carry it around a pole and drop it into another circle.
snip
The game sound simple until you hang out with Mohammad Hasan Palwan. "Palwan" means strongman in Dari, the Persian language of Afghanistan. That's what people call him. The strongman. for a strongman, he's hardly gig like American athletes, not like Ndamukong Suh or Blake Griffin. He's tall and wiry with brown-green eyes and a neat mustache.

Short, Dark and Handsome?
Leslie Goldman
9/14/11
In high school, I swore I would never, ever date someone who was shorter than me.
snip
Once I finally care around to the fact that my one true love had been sitting under my nose this whole time, disguised as my best friend, it was a happy coincidence that he happens to be about an inch taller than me in bare feet.
snip
So I was intrigued when I recently received an email with the subject "SHORT, dark and handsome?" in the subject. It read:
Let's face it; we're living in a world that tells us a tall man is a handsome man, an athletic man as well as a successful man. Whether we admit it or not, all of these stigmas collect in the minds of the shorter man and can have a profound affect on a shorter man's mindset and psychological state.
How do shorter men overcome and persevere socially in the dating world? They get a great amount of help from celebrity clothier Jimmy Au's For Men 5'8" and Under.
Turns out Jimmy, who stands 5 '2", is a Beverly Hills-based celebrity clothier who has outfitted everyone from Mark Wahlberg (5'7") to Elijah Wood (5'6") to Flavor Flav (5'5.5"). (Others well-dressed shorties include Marc Anthony, Danny DeVito, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Jason Alexander and Michael J. Fox.)
Considering height is intimately related to body image, I asked Jimmy a few Qs about his clients and the psychology of the short man.
What are some common misconceptions about shorter men?
"When it comes to body image... some misconceptions about shorter men include every short man wants to look taller; every short man wants to be taller; every shorter man feels short. If people didn't make heightist comments, I don't think any shorter man would need to feel this way."
What are some obstacles facing shorter men?
"Shorter men need to overcome those who judge them purely based on height. They need to overcome the inequality that exists in pay just because one is shorter. They need to overcome women who judge and won't give a chance to men based on height. They need to overcome the image that assertiveness is somehow a complex developed because of their height.
On the flipside, some people need to overcome the obstacle of judging the abilities of short men based on their height when it's completely unrelated. Some employers need to overcome the obstacle of paying a shorter man less for the same work. Some women need to overcome the obstacle of judging attractiveness purely based on height. Some people have to overcome the obstacle of assuming an assertive or dominant shorter man is such because he's trying to compensate for his height."

Didn't get the job? Blame 'lookism', as discrimination against the ugly 'is the new Racism'
By Luke Salkeld
September 5th 2011
Some might consider it an ugly truth that attractive people are often more successful than those less blessed with looks.
But now our appearance is emerging in legal disputes as a new kind of discrimination.
'Lookism', it is claimed, is the new racism, and should be banished from civilised societies.
It is currently the subject of several court actions in America and some experts say similar cases should be considered here too.
Economist Daniel Hamermesh argues that ugliness is no different from race or a disability, and suggests unattractive people deserve legal protection.
'Some people are born ugly and there's not much they can do about it. You're pretty much stuck with your looks. Logically there's no less reason to protect the ugly than the disabled, African Americans, other racial minorities or religious minorities, as we do. We could even have affirmative action for the ugly.'

The ones who get the worst press - ''grubby little fingers, dirty little minds'' - are the small men.
''Short man syndrome'' it's called. The less-tall man, so the stereotype goes, tends to overcompensate for his lack of stature by being bellicose, brash and boorish. Think Attila the Hun, Phil Spector, Napoleon, John Howard, a few ex-bosses of mine, or anyone who claims to be of ''average height''. Short and hating it. BBC "Lifts" Louise Ross-Foden's comments about Short People

The BBC has removed the comments of Louise Ross-Foden in the July 22nd 2011 article "Why Tall people have higher hopes of good health" that contained the statement "Small people constantly want to prove themselves - and they can turn out to be a pain as a result." The BBC sent this statement to me at Supportfortheshort.org:
Thanks for your comments, and your interest in the BBC News website. The piece aimed primarily to take a scientific look at the issue of height. The comment from the Talls Persons Club was meant to be light-hearted in nature but has been removed to avoid causing offence.
The webmaster, along with Geoffrey Arnold of http://thesocialcomplex.tumblr.com and a few others wrote complaints to the BBC about the article and also about Miss Ross-Foden's statement that was quoted by the BBC. This website believes in free speech, however when national and world media support other groups based on virtually every other physical and genetic trait and defines disparaging comments based on those traits as prejudice, and blatantly ignores virtually only one group - short people - it's time for concrete action. It is to the BBC's credit that Miss Ross-Foden's comments were taken out of the article. The webmaster made it very clear in his complaint that such comments based on race, religion, skin color, sex, sexual orientation, weight, disability, etc. would not be tolerated by the BBC or most other networks. Prof. Tim Cole's Tall people's "gravitation" theory, however, is still prominently displayed to the side.

Another Cataclysm Predicted for 2012
July 4, 2011
In 2008, just a short time after the documentary S&M: Short and Male made its debut, a notice was placed on the famous NOSSA website – www.nossaonline.org that a “NOSSA Documentary” was in some sort of a “pre-production phase” and scheduled for release in 2009.
When 2009 came, the so-called “documentary” was listed as now scheduled for “late 2009”.
When late 2009 rolled around all mention of the “documentary” from the NOSSA website disappeared.
In early 2010 the NOSSA website then indicated that the “documentary” was now scheduled for “late” 2010.
That never materialized either.
Again mention of the “documentary” was apparently discontinued. Mention of the “documentary” then appeared still again, this time for release in 2011.
Then that mention disappeared.
Now in the middle of 2011, Matt Campisi is now indicating HERE that the "NOSSA documentary" is NOW scheduled for 2012. Remembering Larry Smith, longtime jazz radio celeb, dead at 81
Neil Tesser, Chicago Jazz Music Examiner
July 3, 2011
Larry Smith died the weekend before last. He did it rather quietly, which really didn’t suit him at all.
Smith played jazz recordings all night at WBEZ, “back in the day,” when Chicago’s public radio station programmed jazz in the evening hours. For the last several years of my own 17-year run at the station, Larry followed me on the air: I’d play my last tune, the hour-hand would hit 1 AM, and Larry and I would exchange a few pleasantries before I punched “play” for the first tune of his shift.
Believe me, “quietly” never entered into that scenario.
Larry Smith didn’t talk quietly, or listen quietly; he didn’t even move into a room quietly. He could make coffee nervous. He was a jolt of 5-Hour Energy, way before any such product ever gleamed in its creator’s eye. He had played trumpet as a younger man, and in a way, he still was a jazz trumpet – short, resonant, taking the lead, spilling sound in a steady stream.
Smith had a well-tuned carburetor of a voice, sharply resonant with a slight growl, and just the right amount of grease. He was compact and wiry, with a short man’s temperament. He always seemed ready to grapple with something – any argument, any assailant, whether truly threatening or merely perceived . . .

Genetic Basis for Crime: A New Look
by Patricia Cohen
Published: June 19, 2011
Researchers estimate that at least 100 studies have shown that genes play a role in crimes. “Very good methodological advances have meant that a wide range of genetic work is being done,” said John H. Laub, the director of the justice institute, who won the Stockholm Prize in Criminology last week. He and others take pains to emphasize, however, that genes are ruled by the environment, which can either mute or aggravate violent impulses. Many people with the same genetic tendency for aggressiveness will never throw a punch, while others without it could be career criminals.
snip
It was less than 20 years ago that the National Institutes of Health abruptly withdrew funds for a conference on genetics and crime after outraged complaints that the idea smacked of eugenics. The president of the Association of Black Psychologists at the time declared that such research was in itself “a blatant form of stereotyping and racism.”
snip
But a predisposition is not destiny. “Knowing something is inherited does not IN ANY WAY tell us anything about whether changing the environment will improve it,” Ms. Moffitt wrote in an e-mail. “For example, self-control is a lot like height, it varies widely in the human population, and it is highly heritable, but if an effective intervention such as better nutrition is applied to the whole population, then everyone gets taller than the last generation.”
"Self-control is a lot like height"??!! Self-control is self control. That's why it's called SELF - CONTROL. Each individual has the ability to determine their own actions. No one has the ability to control their height. Just another attempt at associating a "lack of height" with a "lack of self-control".

Kanazawa fired after black women are unattractive blog goes bust
Submitted by Anissa Ford on 2011-06-05
Satoshi Kanazawa can get back to his other day jobs because Psychology Today has fired him and his blog ‘The Scientific Fundamentalist: a hard look at truths about human nature.’
One would think that a Japanese evolutionary scientist with a strong media following would know better than to offend black women. Lately, coming down hard on black women hasn't worked out so well for media guys.

And now Satoshi Kanazawa's lost his blog and his profile page has been deleted from Psychology Today's website. His article and unqualified research on unattractive black women sent off a fury of protests online. 75,000 people blew up Psychology Today via email, Twitter and Facebook. Some even rang Psychology Today's telephones off the hook.
When all was said and done, Psychology Today sent an email to ColorofChange.org and informed the largest online African American political organization that Kanazawa's work won't appear on their site any longer. Psychology Today even said they've instituted new rules to prevent inflammatory content in the future.
People who hadn't heard of Kanazawa were sharing the text in question, their hurt, their ire and disbelief that Psychology Today endorsed the piece. They demanded Kanazawa be fired. Students at Kanazawa's other day job, London School of Economics, have also called for Kanazawa's resignation.

All stereotypes are true, except...: "All extremely handsome men are gay"
Are extremely handsome men more likely to be gay?
Published on May 8, 2008 by Satoshi Kanazawa in The Scientific Fundamentalist
Another common stereotype about physical appearance is that extremely handsome men are likely to be homosexual. In one experiment, women rate pictures of men as more attractive if they thought that the men were homosexual than if they thought that they were heterosexual, while men do not exhibit the same tendency in judging the attractiveness of women. Extremely handsome celebrities, such as Tom Cruise, have long been dogged with rumors of being gay all their careers.

Tom Cruise has long been dogged with rumors of being gay not because of his face, but because of his height. The subliminal rationale is that a short male actor should not play masculine roles. Once again, consistent with the evolutionary psychological logic, it turns out that shorter men are more likely to be homosexual than taller men, and homosexual men are shorter than heterosexual men.
The same Satoshi Kanazawa wrote an article earlier this month for Psychology Today entitled - "Why are Black women less physically attractive than other women?" The article stated,
"black women are objectively less physically attractive than other women" yet "subjectively consider themselves to be far more physically attractive than others."
Kanazawa and Psychology Today have faced a horde of articles and people outraged at his statements. According to The Atlantic Wire -
After some attempted editing of the title, the magazine retracted the post from its website in its entirety. Kanazawa in turn is facing an investigation by the London School of Economics, where he is a professor, after a unanimous vote for his dismissal by the student union.

Here's a list of articles that express outrage at Kanazawa's article on the lack of physical attractiveness of Black women:

- And there are dozens or even hundreds more. Bottom line:
Stating that short men are undesirable by women is OKAY and even flaunted and celebrated. And if and when a short man dares to attempt to counter these presumptions, he is viciously attacked. Those attacks are also flaunted and celebrated. However, if some academic - or anyone else for that matter - states that Black women - or any member of ANY OTHER GROUP are not attractive - this is grounds for ostracism, charges of racism, immediate loss of employment, and a multitude of instantaneous apologies.
Wake up short men.

Horde of Teens attack, rob MARTA passengers
Wednesday April 20, 2011
By Christian Boone
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Roughly two dozen teens, chanting the name of a well-known Atlanta gang, brought mob rule to MARTA early Sunday morning, overwhelming nervous passengers and assaulting two Delta flight attendants.
Their "Clockwork Orange" style blitz was over soon after it began. The teens boarded the train, headed to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, at the Garnett station a little after midnight seemingly intent on instilling fear. They succeeded.
"There was blood everywhere, people were hollering and screaming,"
snip
Flight attendant Parker Stanea, 28, told officers a diminutive teen, no taller than 5'4" and wearing a pink shirt, hit him with a soda can over the left eye.
snip
Stanea's friend, Jose Souza, said he was assaulted by the same suspect, according to the MARTA police incident report. The pink-clad teen punched him in the lip, the 24-yer-old Delta employee said, but before they could take anything two unidentified male passengers intervened.

Out of over 2 dozen teens, the double emphasis is on the "diminutive teen, no taller than 5'4", to the exclusion of all the others.

“The Only True Heightism Activist in the World” fails to “protest” for Juan Pablo Pichardo.
The National Organization of Short Statured Adults, Inc. (NOSSA) fails to even mention Pichardo’s situation.
April 13, 2011
We might have known. As a matter of fact we do know. Don’t you wonder why Christopher Allen Hamre, aka ‘Luda’-Chris Hamre has not “protested” for the 5 feet in height handyman Juan Pablo Pichardo who, according to the New York Post, is suing his boss for allegedly referring to him as a “midget”, slapping him, affixing “a picture of a baby’s body” with Pichardo’s “face on the poster” on his locker, and posting “several pictures of dwarfs on his locker, and even covering “his locker [with] pornography designed to insult him as a Christian? I mean after all, the building he worked at is right here in New York City in Manhattan, the same as the Standard Hotel where Hamre’s last so-called “protest” took place coincidentally on Abraham Lincoln’s birthday of February 12th. The famous NOSSA homepage has not even mentioned Pichardo’s plight. Now the most logical question to ask ourselves would be, why not? Why no alleged NOSSA “protest”? Not even a mention? It couldn’t be because the webmaster was on hand to witness the last famous “protest” of “The Only True Heightism Activist in the World” could it?
snip
‘Luda’-Chris Hamre, the president of the at least 2 member National Organization of Short Statured Adults, Inc. and dubbed by the unscrupulous Matt Campisi as “The Only True Heightism Activist in the World”was more than willing to claim to make a “protest” for a couple of silly young girls who were let go from their jobs as cocktail waitresses at the Standard Hotel because of a new height requirement for cocktail waitresses and who now are suing for – get this - sex discrimination; Hamre was more than willing to stand on an isolated street corner in the vicinity of the Standard Hotel to allegedly “protest” this. But when it comes to standing up for a man in the same city who has claimed to have really been demeaned, disparaged and violated on his job by his boss specifically because of his short stature and even his religion, the masterful NOSSA and their esteemed president / True activist are strangely silent. Not even a brief mention on their famous homepage under their even more famous “Latest NOSSA Updates” section. Nothing.
It seems that when a serious situation presents itself the “True activists” of NOSSA are nowhere to be found.
snip
To refer to someone like Hamre as, "The Only True Heightism Activist in the World" is an insult to our intelligence. It is an inversion of reality, and also a perversion of reality.

Tina Fey Scar = Short Husband ?
snip
In 2008, Tina Fey finally decided to reveal the secret behind her scar to People magazine. When Tina was five years old, she was sitting in the front yard of her home when a stranger walked up to her and with no warning violently cut her cheek. She didn’t even realize that she had been cut and her initial reaction was that somebody had marked her face with a pen. How did Tina Fey deal with such a traumatic event? Her strategy was to not let this event take over her life. She tried to go on with her life as if this event had not taken place. Having a scar on your face would be traumatic for anybody at any age but one can’t imagine how traumatic it would have been for a young girl. According to her People magazine interview she was able to forget about it until she got in front of the camera. Some people do not even notice the scar when watching her on TV as most of her scenes are shot from the right scar free side. It is quite possible that she chose to get involved with comedy as a way to deal with the traumatic memories of the event.
snip
I was looking through pictures on Google Images to confirm this height by comparing her height in pictures with the heights of other celebrities. While doing this I came across a picture of her with her husband, Jeff Richmond. In doing so I found out that her husband is much shorter than her. He is 5 feet tall, 4 inches shorter than Tina. Women in general have a very strong preference for somebody who is much taller than them. ABC 20/20 did a show on how strong this preference is by having a line up of short and tall men.

Short UES handyman suing boss who mocked him as a 'midget'
By Dareh Gregorian
March 28, 2011
A diminutive Upper East Side handyman is looking to make short work of the boss he says constantly mocked his height.
In a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit, Juan Pablo Pichardo says supervisor Moises Guimet would belittle him by referring to him as a "midget" and slapping him on his head.
Guimet's little jibes also spilled over to Pichardo's locker inside of the posh East 76th Street building where they both worked.
One one occasion, the suit says, Guimet affixed "a picture of a baby's body" with Pichardo's "face on the poster" on the locker. Guimet also "posted several pictures of dwarfs on his locker," the filing says.
Guimet wasn't satisfied with cutting Pichardo's height down to size either, the suit says.
He allegedly took aim at Pichardo's religious beliefs by covering "his locker [with] pornography designed to insult plaintiff as a Christian."

Attempt at Humiliation of Tom Cruise
March 27, 2011
The webmaster recently discovered this Youtube video of actor Tom Cruise. The video goes back to 2006, but that is irrelevant. The video depicts him being interviewed by another man. The man appears to be about 6'2" or 6'3" in comparison to Cruise's 5'7". The interviewer has a microphone which suddenly and unexpectedly squirts Tom in the face with what is most likely plain water. Cruise takes it with a smile at first and then regains his composure quickly, grabs the man by the hand and righteously asks this guy, "Why would you do that"? Cruise then asks the man, "What's so funny about that?" The Taller then attempts to flee when Tom says, "Don't run away. Don't run away. I'm here giving you an interview and answering your questions and you do something really nasty. You're a jerk. . . . "
One has to ask himself if this prank would have been pulled on men like Jude Law, Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington, Colin Firth, Kevin Costner, or Morgan Freeman. One also has to ask himself that, if the heights were reversed, that is, if Tom Cruise were 6'2" or 6'3" and the other guy was 5'7", if this "joke" would have been attempted at all.
You know the answer as well as we do.

'Luda'-Chris Giving Us a Lot to Talk About Lately
Thursday March 10, 2011
Here is a link to NOSSA's famous Youtube video depicting 'Luda'-Chris Hamre giving his fellow Nosskateers and others the information on last Monday's hearing in Carson City, Nevada on whether or not to further a proposed bill including height, weight and other characteristics in the Nevada Workplace Discrimination Laws. Hamre mentioned the name of the attache to Assemblyman Tick Segerblom, so it is now apparent that Hamre was the other person that was to testify that the attache was referring to in his e-mail to me. I think we may have answered the question as to why the teleconferencing was canceled. According to 'Luda'-Chris -
Assembly Bill 90 is a bill to ban height and weight discrimination in the workplace and also Bowling in the workplace.

Is ‘Luda’-Chris Hamre Clinically ill or Just Another Deluded Short Man?
Wednesday March 9, 2011
Calling Dr. Allcome! Calling Dr. Allcome! Report to the New York City Psycho Ward!
I just read ‘Luda’-Chris Hamre’s description of his so-called “protest” on February 12, 2011 near the Standard Hotel in New York City. This is just too much. This moron defies belief. Hamre writes:
Fighting the rough wind, I wrote down what I felt was necessary on my placard and marched across the street to the hotel . . .
Marched?! Yeah. We can see it now. Hamre stops at a Walgreens, buys a piece of cardboard, scribbles in fine ink, ‘Height discrimination must end’, and then walks back and forth on an isolated section of the sidewalk where virtually no one goes, in the vicinity of the Standard Hotel, with a sign that no one could possibly read unless they had a microscope and he calls this a “protest”?! ‘Luda’-Chris writes:
I wasn’t going to be swayed by anyone! I sat my bag down ( which I later would have to remove and hold onto) and immediately noticed a cabbie seeing what I was doing, honking his horn and giving me a thumbs up! I wandered over to him and he told me how he read the story in the paper and was in support of what I was doing. So, within the span of two minutes, before I even started pacing, I had a reaction to what I was doing.
That famous Walgreens doggie bag keeps popping up over and over again. Hamre’s going to have to get somebody to hold it for him next time. Can you imagine a New York cabbie honking his horn and giving this loser a thumbs up? How many people at all – even if they could read Hamre’s “sign”, would respond at all? How would he even know what Hamre was protesting? How would he even know that Hamre was protesting anything at all with a sign that was virtually unreadable? And even if he could read the “height discrimination must end” scribbled on it, how the hell would the cabbie know what the heck Hamre was referring to in the first place? The odds of some New York City cabbie reading about this fringe story “in the paper” then remembering it two weeks later and associating Hamre’s “sign” with the event (even if he could read it) is infinitesimally minute. We can’t even get two short people on the same anonymous message board defending short people, and this nutcase has cabbies giving him a “thumbs up”? The vast majority of cabbies here in New York City are not even native-born Americans. Do you mean to tell us that a Heightism-Savvy cabbie just happened to be near the isolated corner that Hamre was on and instinctively knew what Hamre was doing and gave him a “thumbs-up”? The last thing on their mind would be giving a “thumbs-up” to some seeming-vagrant like Hamre. If I were a lawyer, I’d have a field day with this. Hamre then writes:
The manager noticed me a few moments later and said that there were of course “two sides to the story.”
The manager noticed him a few moments later “and said that there were of course two sides to the story”??!! This is too much! How would the manager know in the first place what this guy was doing with a sign that could barely be read? Are we stupid enough to believe that the manager of a New York Hotel whose nightclub – The Boom-Boom Room, which hosts celebrities like Madonna, Lindsay Lohan and Jude Law - would actually come out in the street to inquire directly from some fringe lamebrain like Hamre carrying a piece of cardboard that no one can read in the first place? How did the manager find out Hamre was even there? You mean to tell me the first thing some employee thought to do was to contact the manager of the Standard Hotel just because he saw a person with a placard on an isolated portion of a sidewalk in the vicinity of the hotel – a placard that could barely be read? And then the manager came running outside in the wind and the cold to speak to this loony-tune personally? Or are you going to tell us that the manager just “happened by” and saw Hamre by coincidence and he too – just like the cabbie – had a flash of psychic insight and knew instinctively what Hamre was doing, then sauntered up to him and said nonchalantly, “Uh, there are two sides to the story Mr. height discrimination”? This guy must think that people are as stupid as he is. Hamre then writes,
. . .When I asked him the hotel’s side, he then, as one would expect, couldn’t reveal it and told me that it was too cold for me and that no one else was there to help me. My response was “I couldn’t care less . . .”
Hamre “couldn’t care less”? Can we actually picture him saying that to the manager of this hotel? The same manager that came running out to meet the esteemed pwesident of the National Organization of Short Statured Arses? This is the beggar that went groveling on the Askmen.com message boards for a date among people who expressed wanton hate of short men and you mean to tell me that all of a sudden he has the ‘cahonas’ to tell the manager of the Standard Hotel where to go? Hamre doesn’t even have the guts to talk back to a nanny goat. This guy must think that we’re as mentally-challenged as he is. Hamre goes on to write,
A few people even took pictures of me.
Yeah. Right. The webmaster of this website was the only one who “took pictures” of Hamre. And we’ve got more. Hamre’s fantasies are just incredible. He also writes,
I came out of the protest unscathed and know that I got some people talking . . .
Yeah – me. This is one deluded short man, make no mistake about that. I’m beginning to believe that this guy is clinically insane. I mean, really. Hamre’s fantasies are stuff for the couch. It’s a good thing that I was there to witness this. It’s an even better thing for Hamre that he has a family that is willing to give him an apartment – most likely rent-free - otherwise this guy would really be on the street with a placard. Not a protest placard either, but a placard begging for money to get a bowl of soup and a piece of bread. Sooner or later Hamre’s relatives are going to wake up to their misplaced generosity and Hamre is really going to wind up on the street begging. He’ll really be behind the 8 ball just like his “leader” Matthew Salvatore Campisi most likely is right now. Matthew Campisi, who has long since absconded from the confines of New York, specifically, Babylon New York, to seek trouble in places elsewhere. I do have to give Campisi a little credit though. Campisi does know a sucker when he sees one. They say that there’s a sucker born every minute; well, Hamre took up about 2 days worth.
All an idiot like Hamre is likely to do is make people trivialize this topic that much more. All a person like Hamre could possibly do with this sort of nonsense is just make people laugh a little more, that is, if they’re even taking any notice at all, which, in this case, no one actually did, fortunately. So in that sense, maybe Hamre didn’t do recognition of heightism any damage with his “protest”, after all. I mean, if nobody knew about it, then there should be no harm done, should there? I hope so. I also hope that people like ‘Luda’-Chris Hamre will soon cease and desist with their so-called ‘efforts’ against heightism. The only possible thing Hamre can do is make people scoff and shake their heads that much more. Somehow though I suspect that as long as Hamre has relatives who feel sorry for him and give him freebies, he’s just going to continue on his merry way “fighting heightism”, being Matt Campisi’s little stooge and gofer, getting hung-up on by talk-show hosts, and most likely working in some mail room at $12 an hour just like he was doing before.

Short People’s Testimony Refused
Wednesday March 9, 2011
On Friday March 4th, I discovered that there was going to be a hearing to discuss the possible passage of a bill in Nevada – AB 90 – that would add height, weight, and physical mannerisms beyond the control of the individual to all the other groups protected by law in the workplace in that state. The hearing was only 3 days away and that was this past Monday March 7th. I contacted Assemblyman Tick Segerblom both by e-mail and voice mail almost immediately. I received an e-mail from Assemblyman Segerblom’s attaché who informed me that they “would need to set up a teleconference”. In a second e-mail sent to me by Segerblom’s attaché, he even gave me the web address for the audio-visual feed and suggested that I mute the sound while I was speaking via telephone so as not to create any annoying feedback. He even mentioned that the Assemblyman was in contact “with another individual regarding the height aspect of the bill”. I sent the attaché an e-mail asking for the details on how to teleconference.
The attaché never got back to me.
I contacted him by phone about an hour before the hearing and he told me that teleconferencing would not be feasible. He did not say why. Nonetheless, I watched the hearing unfold on the video-feed and what I saw turned out to be no surprise. I saw 3 or 4 Fat women testifying about discrimination against them in the workplace. No short people testifying. Not one. I have to admit that I was a bit peeved at this. It was not as if their committee was brimming over with short people anxious to testify. It was not as if they had no room for another short person. It was not as if it was some sort of closed hearing. It was an open hearing where anyone could testify, very similar to the one in Boston 3 years ago. It wasn’t required that one be a resident of Nevada either. So obviously I was a little confused as well. There were however, some things that were apparent to me. One thing was that since Segerblom’s attaché had gotten back to me promptly, and on the weekend to boot, with his offer of a “teleconference”, I could see that the failure to have me – and also another person – testify, was not Assemblyman Segerblom’s doing. It was definitely not the attaché’s doing either. It had to come from somewhere else. Somewhere ‘higher’. Where that was exactly I could not and cannot say at this moment. Nonetheless I sent the Chairman of the hearing, Kevin Atkinson, an email inquiring why my testifying could not be accommodated. I am waiting for a reply. Rather than voice any suspicions about any usual suspects, we’re just going to stand pat for now and wait a reasonable length of time for Chairman Atkinson’s reply.
Would it be a stretch for us to say that, uh, maybe we’ll wait on this one.

'Do Short Men Stand a Chance' Still getting Hate Comments About Short Men 4 Months Later
Tuesday March 8, 2011
Read this post from 'Jenny' four days ago:
Oh STFU superbotch. What we are saying is that upon first glance, an obese woman will get the same reaction that short men will get from women. Short men are not attractive ever. If a woman is attracted to a short man, then something is wrong with her. Most likely, she couldn't get a taller man. This is simple genetics. We cannot downgrade the species. Shorter men cannot protect, therefore cannot get that same sexual arousal from a woman. We don't care the logic, or if it "makes sense" - This just IS. It is hardwired to the brain. We see shorter men as children. YES an obese woman can lose the weight which makes it suck for you! I will say that I don't understand why more research isn't put into making HUMANS GROW AFTER PUBERTY. They can give us women boob implants, nose jobs, remove wrinkles, tummy tucks and make us more attractive, but the ONE THING which would make males more attractive (HEIGHT = #1 - Tall, Dark and Handsome - IN THAT ORDER), they can't have lol.

Another famous 'Luda'-Chris Hamre "Protest" photo
March 2, 2011
Here's another photo of the so-called president of the National Organization of Short Statured Adults, Inc. in his famous February 12, 2011 "protest". What was 'Luda'- Chris Hamre protesting you might ask? Well, it was claimed he was protesting the firing of 2 cocktail waitresses at the Standard Hotel in New York City - all because it was felt that they were too short by management. The two former cocktail waitresses are currently suing the hotel - not for heightism - but for sexism. That's right, sexism. It seems the male cocktail waitresses didn't have a height requirement, so the two young gals thought they'd make it a sex discrimination suit. 'Luda'-Chris Hamre apparently was in full agreement with the two young ladies, so he got on his horse, stopped at a nearby Walgreens drug store and picked up all the necessary protest paraphernalia that retarded short arses like himself need in order to conduct a proper protest. 'Luda'-Chris was in full bloom as anyone can see by the photo. Standing on an isolated corner with not a soul around, displaying a protest "sign" the writing on which no one could see unless they had an electron microscope, and carrying his famous Walgreens doggie bag containing his sophisticated digital camera, Hamre was sparing no effort to get his point across that sexism - uh, excuse me - heightism, is just not acceptable in the 21st Century folks. Braving the wind and the cold all alone, Hamre will do anything to help other retar - uh, excuse me - short people like himself. His mentor and leader - Matt Campisi, the famous security guard, mama's boy, ne'r-do-well, nomad, star of "The Closet", (among other things), and in general All-around Knave, formerly of Babylon, New York and many other locations, would never do what he's doing. There must be some reward for his efforts.
There is.
We hereby nominate Christopher Allen Hamre as Numbskull of the Year for 2011. We nominate him because of his undying loyalty to a sleazebag like Matt Campisi. We nominate him because he apparently left his brains back in California - if indeed he had any to begin with. We nominate him because an 8-year old could have manufactured a better "protest" sign. We nominate him for giving Walgreens free publicity without getting compensated for it. We nominate him because, at the age of 42, he should know better than to behave like a homeless person with a room temperature IQ. We nominate him for his 'Luda'-Chris behavior. We fully expect lots more idiocy from 'Luda'-Chris down the road.

The Sarkozy Complex: Short Men Aren't Angry, but Should Be
(from June 8, 2010)
by TresSugar
Tall security need not apply to protect French president Nicolas Sarkozy. An unidentified police source told the Le Parisien that "there's no point recruiting supermen" as "large-sized" candidates would not likely be hired.
This isn't the first time we've heard about the 5'5" president's short-man complex. He's been spotted adding height with heeled shoes, accused of putting short factory workers (only) on stage for a televised speech, and standing on boxes hidden behind podiums while speaking.
Can you blame him? Psychologists Leslie Martel and Henry Biller found that short men don't measure up in the eyes of men and women. Both sexes perceive them to be less capable, confident, successful, masculine, outgoing, secure, positive, and mature than taller men.

February 26, 2011
The individual in this video appears to be a female-to-male Transsexual. “He” doesn’t appear to be that old; “he” appears to be under 30 years of age. The female to male transsexual is more of an anomaly than the male-to-female transsexual. This is due to the fact that the female-to-male surgery is a bit more involved and complex than the other way around. Nevertheless, the psychological screening process supposedly is rigorous before the individual is approved for sex-reassignment surgery. There is however one little item that the masterful psychologists and psychiatrists apparently fail to tell their female-to-male patients about, and that is the ever-present HEIGHT ISSUE. The masterful psychologists apparently fail to tell their patients that as a male that is significantly shorter than average, their opportunities with the opposite sex become severely limited. One would think that these masters of the psyche would be well schooled by the psychiatric community about the difficulties of short men to attract women, but, unfortunately, that is not the case and never has been. These so-called “psychologists” are well-schooled in the politically correct environment of LGBT, but are virtual illiterates when it comes to something as simple as height.

Club Bouncer Assaults, Robs and Humiliates Innocent Man
February 20, 2011
This video is a prime example of what the Large get away with with respect to the small. One can easily see the size difference between the bouncer and the young man in the video. If we were to take a wild guess we would say that the bouncer is about 6'3" 280 lbs. and the young man is about 5'9" and 165 lbs. And while the young guy in the video is not technically a man of "short-stature" by our standards, the video nonetheless is a metaphor of the situation for the short man. It is our understanding that this bad-ass bouncer is now facing the legal ramifications of not only his actions, but his incredible arrogance in filming this situation. If you're under 18 years of age please ask your mommy's permission before you view it.
If only all the wrongs against the short-statured could be righted. Please see video page as well.

NOSSA Buffoon Hamre At It Again.
New York City
Saturday February 12, 2011
We’re off to see the wizard,
the wonderful Wizard of Oz,
We hear he is a whiz of a wiz,
If ever a wiz there was,
The webmaster took a 45 minute subway ride today into Manhattan to personally view the famous ‘NOSSA Protest’.
I’ve never seen the Standard Hotel, but I got off the subway train at the Union Square station and walked two long blocks or so west and then a block or two south. It was a cold windy day with the wind blowing in off the water in icy gusts.
snip
I arrived, took a couple of photos and looked around to see if I could see the famous NOSSA contingent. I saw nothing. I crossed the street and then I realized that the famous NOSSA contingent was actually there after all. It consisted of the famous clown Christopher 'Luda'-Chris Hamre, Nossa’s famous ‘pwesident’ and Matthew Campisi’s chief stooge, appointed by non other than sleazy Campisi himself, NOSSA’s former president, now hiding in the shadows as treasurer. There was no one else that I could see. I did get an incredible urge to start laughing uncontrollably but somehow, some way, I managed to subdue it.
snip
I couldn't even read the words on the little bastard’s “poster”, but my eyes are getting a bit old I must admit. During his command performance the little tike asked a passerby (probably one of his adoring fans) to please take a picture of him for the Noskateers. The fan was, of course, Tall. ‘Luda’-Chris took out his little camera from the doggie bag he was carrying and handed it to the Tall fan. ‘Just pwess da button’, little Chrissy commanded. Back in his doggie bag the cheap camera went and now there was a permanent record of the little NOSSA charade.
You know, I had a feeling that it would be only him. Since I couldn’t read the writing on Hamre’s placard, I assume that he took a pen or pencil and just scribbled some BS on it. No one seemed to pay him the slightest bit of attention. What a joke! But then again isn’t that what comedians are for?
In case you don’t know what Hamre was “protesting”, it was the firing of two waitresses from the Standard night club – Stephanie Jaggers and Faye Rex, both aspiring actresses (as are about half the young women in Manhattan by the way). They were fired because they weren’t tall enough to suit the management and now they’re suing for sex discrimination. That’s right, sex discrimination.
snip
Humorous isn’t it? (Hamre isn’t the only one who can be funny) If an average short man took out a lawsuit and won every time he was discriminated against on the basis of his height, he would be a millionaire in a thrice. Oh but wait a minute! Short men can’t sue for anything – including sex discrimination. I forgot.
But back to ‘Luda’-Chris.
I can’t figure out what this guy thought he was going to accomplish with this.
snip
If I didn’t know who he was to begin with I would have thought he was a homeless person with a sign begging for money for a crust of bread and a bowl of soup. As a matter of fact if it wasn’t for his seemingly magnanimous relatives, Hamre probably would have set up shop at the nearest soup kitchen a long time ago. God Bless his family. But you know, in any case, that is what ‘Luda’-Chris Hamre does best – grovel and beg, and it seems he didn’t even have to be taught how either. His compadre, Matt ‘The Ratt’ Campisi has chosen well. Obviously Hamre never learns his lesson. Dolts like Hamre very seldom do.

Are Tall People Discriminated Against?
Arianne Cohen
June 26, 2009
In short: Yes.
I get a lot of emails from average-height and short people asking why I bothered to write a book about tall folk, who earn $789 more per inch per year, have a longer longevity, and are slightly smarter. Do talls really need a cheerleader?
snip
But most tall discrimination is omnipresent. The next time you're out in public, look around. You'll see tall people's knees bent well past 90 degrees on subways, buses and in restaurant chairs. You'll see them stuffed into theater seats and falling off exercise bikes that are blatantly designed for the 10-90th percentiles. You'll see tall folks hanging off of yoga mats and massage tables, limbs sticking out of cubicles.
snip
I vote for the easy solution: Tall Consumerism. It's simple: Only spending dollars on products that fit perfectly, priced the same as other sizes. . . .

We short folks really have to see what we can do to make life easier for those poor, disadvantaged Tallers - like Arianne 'Supremacy' Cohen and John Tesh. The poor dears.

In this over fourteen minute clip on alien abduction, check out the brief segment starting at 13:18 into the video. I know, I know what you're thinking: This time the webmaster has gone too far. Heightism is one thing, but alien abduction? Now he's really flipped. Not quite. Incredibly, most incredibly, you'll find more people willing to come forward to state they've been abducted by grey aliens and had their genetic material taken from them to beget hybrid alien babies than you will see short people coming forward to claim that they've been discriminated against because of their height. Dr. David Jacobs of Temple University - a notable abduction researcher who has put many a claimed abductee under hypnosis - states that abduction is a common phenomenon throughout the world. We state that heightism is a common phenomenon throughout the world. Actually if their stories are true, it is probably also a phenomenon of Zeta Reticuli or wherever the heck it is claimed that these beings are from.
Budd Hopkins: "The regular little aliens were about her size. (abduction victim at the age of 8) She was I don't know, she was maybe 8 or something. But there was this one tall one. And that's usually the one, who's sort of the one who's in charge."
We could sure use Dr. Jacobs to hypnotize some in-denial short people; About 50 million of them.

Employmentlawsolicitors.net Deleting the Webmaster's Posts.

(see 'A Tall Man Tells the Truth for a Change')
The webmaster twice has attempted to make a post in response to an article written by a 6-foot man recognizing the widespread discrimination against short men. On both occasions the webmaster's post has been deleted. The webmaster's posts were sane, logical, and sensible. We believe that this sort of behavior is nothing more than an attempt on the part of the moderator to refuse to let discussion on the topic of Heightism go beyond a certain point and relegate it to an individual issue.

Apparently 'Employmentlawsolicitors.net will not allow a short man to state the facts about heightism beyond a certain point. We wonder if they deleted anyone else's posts. We will never know.

I’ll start off by saying I am 6 feet even. By the common occurrences scale I am tall. So why would I ask this question? Because I think about more than myself and my issues, that’s why.
This is one of the biggest social shunning issues in civilization today. When we hear concerns over body image issues in regards to women and weight (which are indeed valid) no one ever seems to recognize the utter contempt people-at-large have for short men. I’ve seen it at my job with a capable responsible employee mocked and frequently disrespected by his own co-workers. And it angered me.

Webmaster Battles While NOSSA Grovels
Saturday December 4, 2010
Where are the shrimps of NOSSA when you need them? While the webmaster was posting comment after comment to combat the cauldron of hate on AskMen.com, all the vaunted Nosskateers could do was send their ‘Luda’-Chris ‘pwesident’ – Chrissy ‘The Sissy’ Hamre to ask for a date from among some of the worst female haters of short men, this side of ‘Mistress Ana Viduka’. One would think that an organization allegedly started to combat prejudice against short people would join the webmaster in the battle, but, no go. One would think that maybe one of them might get an idea that even if they didn’t want to state who they were and where they come from, one of them would at least post comment after comment supporting short men – even if it were under an alias.
Not a chance.
Where was Matt ‘The Ratt’ Campisi? You may remember him. He was the one who started the masterful – www.nossaonline.org – way back in 2005; the infamous website that the webmaster made complaints about to state agencies and a federal agency or two for fraudulent representation and ingathering money under false pretenses. He was the official “president” but decided to let his willing stooge – Chrissy ‘The Sissy’ Hamre take over. Hamre is the president in name only. Campisi probably now controls from the background, which, no doubt, is the way Matt ‘The Ratt’ Campisi likes it. Stooge Hamre is the “front man” who is foolish enough to show his face while Campisi sits in the background and most likely manipulates Hamre. As a matter of fact I can picture little Matt ‘The Ratt’ Campisi saying to Hamre words to the effect of, “No Chris don’t post any more messages at AskMen.com. The more you post the more people will fight you and we don’t want to fight, we want to love everyone, and they to love us. Short men will see that other guy doing the fighting and then they’ll say to themselves, “I wonder if there’s an organization for short people”. They’ll look and then they’ll find us. Let him do the fighting. I’ll take – uh, I mean – we’ll take the money in new members.”
Unfortunately that will probably not be the case for little Matt ‘The Ratt’ Campisi. As it stands now after 5 years, uh excuse me, 4 years (One year little Mattie had a website, but he just forgot to form an organization) the NOSSA group most likely has but few members, and the few that they do probably have seem to be in the same league as Mattie and Chrissy, that is, the Little League. Even their former treasurer has abandoned them.

"Mean Woman" to Webmaster on AskMen.com thread:
"Wow, I've become your obsession, lucky me! Actually the part of you is desperately yearning for a woman like me. Well loser, I hang around with my tall boyfriend, have fun and enjoy life unlike you. When you are wanted by nobody, have no sex, respect and friends what else you can do but sitting at the computer round the clock and post nonsense. And keep inviting dwarfs to your website, at least you can cry to each other about yout miserable lives."
The webmaster actually challenged this poster to do a broadcast with him on this website and "her" reply was:
"Did all these shorty wimps hire you to be their lawyer? I don't think so. My real name is Ana Viduka and i like to be dominant, that's true but really don't wanna waste my time with your radio show. As you can see I easily proven to this ''Why'' wimp how inferior he is in every way. Everything I told about him turned out to be truth and now he's somewhere in his hole weeping. He was just taught a lesson he'll never forget."
And this is nothing compared to some of the hate against short men on AskMen.com. If you've really got the stomach for this sort of thing and you'd like to join the webmaster in posting sane comments you can do so.

Hamre & NOSSA: One Big Joke
Monday November 22, 2010
The webmaster never ceases to be amazed at the “Luda-Chris” behavior of Christopher Hamre, the 42-year old ‘pwesident’ of the National Organization of Sick Short Arses. Can you imagine the president of the NAACP going to the KKK message boards to get a date with an Aryan woman?! Well the sort of behavior exhibited by ‘Luda’-Chris is just about in line with a hypothetical situation like that. And speaking of the KKK, the most virulent statements that they – or anyone else - could manufacture against Blacks – or any group for that matter - couldn’t come close to the cauldron of hate that is still bubbling over in response to an article entitled “Do Short Men Stand a Chance”. If the comments on that board are any indication of people’s attitudes toward the short-statured man (and we believe that they are) then it is obvious that at this point in time short men stand very little chance, and if many of the hate-spewing posters there got their way, I’m sure concentration camps would be set up for our extermination.

MORE STARTLING NEWS FROM -
"DO SHORT MEN STAND A CHANCE"!!! ---
IS THIS CHRISTOPHER HAMRE, AKA 'LUDA'-CHRIS, POSTING ON THE SAME THREAD ASKING FOR A DATE???!!!
Sunday November 21, 2010
We believe that the laughable and utterly pathetic so-called 'president' of the National Organization of Short Nincompoops, put this post on Page 2 of the so far 55 pages and close to 3,000 comments in reference to the above article:
"Any of you women in here who like short guys - in the NY area? I'm in Brooklyn. . . ."
The name of the poster was listed as 'CHamre'. What can we say about this groveling, obsequious, idiot? Just when we think we've seen it all, something happens to top what has gone before. It's just incredible. It was only a couple of days ago that I found this article and its close to 3,000 mostly negative comments about short men. It was only this morning that instead of just browsing the most recent pages, I decided to go back to page 1 and read from the beginning. I was barely through page 2 when I stumbled across what apparently is 'Luda'-Chris's handiwork. Maybe this isn't OUR 'Luda'-Chris? Well, I thought of that. There's only 1 'CHamre' in Brooklyn, New York - Brighton Beach - most likely. And if there was more than one I doubt very much if he would be caught groveling on some comments page begging for a date from mostly very hostile and prejudiced women whose hate for short men was and is glaringly apparent. Hamre even mentioned the infamous website - http://www.nossaonline.org- and the NOSSA message boards where, at last count, there were a grand total of 19 active posters. I mean, this moron is supposed to be the president of an organization that is supposed to fight discrimination against short people (mostly short men experience it) and here he is apparently posting a comment - not to combat the many heightist comments already posted there - like the webmaster has done, but to chime in like the pathetic little weasel that he is and almost literally beg for companionship amongst a group of women who - if they had the opportunity - would probably want to beat him to death for no other reason than the pure pleasure of killing a short man.

SHORT MEN SHOULD ALL BE BURNED ALIVE! -
This is what 'Rebecca' posted on the same 'Do Short Men Stand a Chance?'
It's unbelievable isn't it folks? Totally unwarranted hate and anger. A psychologist would refer to this as "displaced aggression", in other words the anger they can't take out on any other group, they take out on short men. Then they criticize short men for being angry.
She goes on to state:
"We've already done a great job of urging websites to let us have the ability to filter out short men. I totally ignore shorter men when I'm out clubbing or in any other shorter setting. I love eHarmony for urging short men not to sign up and winning their lawsuit. Short men are just not wanted, not even by us short women. I've personally turned down short men from jobs when working in HR at my former job."
Imagine if this was a racial group that this woman wanted all "burned alive".
Imagine if this was any group that she "personally turned down" for a job because of an irrelevant physical trait.
Imagine.

Watchdog: Banning short men from Marriage agencies violates human dignity

Wednesday, September 15th 2010 23:26:00
SEOUL: The human rights watchdog said Wednesday it is discriminatory for match making agencies to ban the membership of short men despite claims that such marriage seekers rarely succeed in tying the know, reports Yonhap News Agency.
The National Human rights Commission received a complaint last December from a South Korean man who had been rejected by two Seoul agencies for being too short at 1.58 meters.
The rights panel later discovered that the companies were only accepting applicants measuring 1.65 meters or more, allegedly because few female members wished to meet short men.
One of the agencies claimed that despite the policy, men shorter than 1.7 meters rarely made it to the altar.

Would You Date A Short Guy? Take our Poll
Poor Rob.
Did you ever see the "short guy" 20/20? Ten or so years ago, the ABC news show decided to do a little studio test, The anchors presented women with lineups of men-five at a time-from which to choose a date. To boost the shortest contender's chances, they trumped him up with fake selling points. Rob, for example, 5-foot-3, was billed as an MD. When no one wanted to go out with him, the show added: bestselling author, champion skier, and chalet owner. Still, no takers. Stu, only 5 feet tall, fared worse. Although he was supposedly a multimillionaire at the age of 25, the women wouldn't go near him. (You've got to read the transcript.) Gulf Oil Disaster: Pensacola Beach
The tide came in Tuesday night, under a moon almost full, and when the sun came up and the water retreated there it was : a broken band of oil about 5 feet wide and 8 miles long.
It look like tobacco spit and smelled foreign, and it pooled in yesterday's ffootprints as far as you could see. State officials called it the worst show of crude on shore from the gusher 120 miles away. READ THE STORY: Oil blankets Pensacola Beach.
The Gulf oil situation is an unfolding tragedy and story. The City of Pensacola does figure a bit in the NOSSA saga. Wo do hope little Matt Campisi has found another lair. Way back in 2006 when the webmaster made complaints to two different state agencies about Matthew Campisi's website - www.nossaonline.org - in reference to fraudulent representation on the Internet and ingathering money under false pretenses, Matt Campisi "flew the coop" so-to-speak. At the time Campisi was an airport policeman at the Pensacola Florida Airport for several months when those complaints were filed. He promptly left the police to become a building inspector - of all things - in the same city. He did not last long as a building inspector either. Here's a link to the City of Pensacola website apparently indicating Campisi asking for his retirement contributions back from Pensacola's Finest. You'll note the date of November 8th, 2006 only a few weeks after the webmaster's complaints were filed. This website came online about a week before little Mattie made his plea for his money back from the Boys-in-Blue. The Matt Campisi story is quite an epic saga. Please watch for The NOSSA FILES.

By: MEGAN GIBSON June 22, 2010
Sounds like every girl's dream guy: he's tall; he's on the cover of newspapers around the world; he's confessed to, then denied, a murder. No wonder he's receiving love letters in prison.
Joran Van der sloot is claiming that he's been receiving letters from women who are eager to marry him. And this is despite the fact that 22-year-old has been charged with the brutal murder of Stephany Flores and is being investigated for the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
"One of them even wants me to get her pregnant," he reportedly told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf according to the AP.
Assuming van der Sloot is telling the truth (which, admittedly, isn't really a safe assumption) then someone should probably set these women straight. After all, some of the accusations made against him make the craziest contestants on The Bachelorette look downright sane.
Ladies, a word of advice - set the bar a little higher.
How much higher - 7'3"?

Tall men don't get Labeled
June 21, 2010
Recently I happened to notice a photo of Joran Van der Sloot. What I saw was a tall guy. I didn't know exactly how tall though. You see, being the webmaster of the only website on the Internet that deals seriously with the prejudice of heightism I usually try to be on top of any situation pertaining to height, so I Google'd "How tall is Joran Van der Sloot?" I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of people asking the same question. It was like, "Oh he's sooo tall! I wonder how tall he is?" Some women seemed to have that sort of an attitude, you know, the "OH, he's soo tall", sort of attitude. I did a little searching and I found some articles where it was written that he was 6 feet or 6'1" or so. I didn't believe that. He looked much taller than that. I came across an article that stated, "Yahoo Answers says that Joran van der Sloot stands 6-1, but I'm going with the 6-3 estimate, based on photos."
No way I said.
I then found this article from Boston.com. The measuring wall behind him shows the top of his head to be a shade ABOVE 2.00 meters (I'm assuming that's meters). Two meters equals SIX FEET SIX AND THREE QUARTER INCHES, which rounded off becomes SIX FEET SEVEN INCHES. One thing I noticed in some of the articles that I found is that people seemed to be trying to make poor little Joran smaller than he really is. It's almost like, 'No, No, he can't be THAT TALL, tall men don't go around murdering women. Tall men are our role models. Tall men are our athletes. Why, I'll only date Tall men! Why poor little Joran is as tall as Peyton Manning! - No, Taller!! How dare they! Yep, everyone seems to be making him shorter. But the measuring tape doesn't lie. Think anyone will label tall men now? Don't bet on it.
Here's some more photos for you.
